Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What Else Can We Tell You?

If you do not find the answer to your question here, contact us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Q: What kind of support will I get if I start Crossroads in a church?

A: First of all, we're always improving our website to make life as a ministry leader as hassle-free as possible. Career Explorers register themselves on the website; you can get a listing of them whenever you like; and you have online access to all your partners in ministry at other Crossroads churches.

Beyond that, there are several ways we provide support. Click on the "Help & Support" page for more details.

Q: What does a church membership include?

A: Access to all ministry leader tools.

Ability to offer Career Explorer tools to any Career Explorers you choose. (This includes all the links, articles, tools, Career Explorer's Guide, and our Crossroads job board.)

Ministry leader support as described above.

Participation in the support of the network as described on the "Help & Support" page.

Q: Can I start a Crossroads Career® Ministry outside a church?

A: Our principal focus is on linking Crossroads Career® Ministries to the life of a local church, but there will always be exceptions. If you feel that your non-church based ministry would be a good fit for the spirit and intent of the Crossroads Career® Network, please contact us and we will determine the best approach.

Q: I know of several churches who want to work together on career ministry. Can we join together?

A: We ask each church to pay for its membership separately. However, contact us if you have several churches interested in joining together, because we are open to structuring price breaks for groups.

Q: Why do I have to have a church's "membership key"?

A: We so strongly believe that a search for calling and career is best in the context of a church or strong support network. So we want to do everything we can to encourage career explorers to connect with a local church or other Crossroads ministry to get access to the content on the portal.

For more details on the "membership key" and how registration works, see the "Registration Overview" page.

Q: How do I print the Career Explorer's Guide?

A: Anything you can download from this site, you can print on any printer. All you need is the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you can download for free. You can also make copies for others within your church's Crossroads ministry, as long as the material retains the copyright notice and you do not sell it or use it outside the context of a Crossroads ministry.

We realize it requires time and money to print all these documents. But the alternative is for Crossroads Career® Services to be in the business of printing and mailing — which would mean we can't grow to serve other churches. In other words, letting you do the printing — as much as you need — is what enables us to offer the material for a low annual fee.

Q: What if people don't have access to the Internet?

A: In these cases, you will have more printing to do as a ministry leader. Contact us if you have suggestions on how we can support you.

Q: What if I'm nowhere near a member church?

A: If you can't connect to a member church, you can still register under a personal membership in the Crossroads Career® Network. You'll pay a one-time fee for access to all the career explorer content on our site. Just click the "Register as a Career Explorer (under personal membership)" link, which is on the menu in the Career Explorers area of the site.

Q: What if our church already has a career ministry?

A: Then you're ahead of the game! The most difficult step is often to get started.

You should think of Crossroads Career® Network is a rich resource to supplement what you already do. Even if you have a ministry, you can provide career explorers with access to our portal, job board, and Career Explorer Course resources. You'll have access to the whole network of Crossroads Career® Ministries too. All that is included, and valuable — no matter what you call your ministry or what you already offer.

Q: I'm looking for a job. How do I view and apply for the jobs posted on the job board?

A: When you are logged into the Career Explorer's area of the site, select Job Board from the menu. You should get a page giving you options to narrow your search by church, location, or type of job. Otherwise, just click on the link at the top of the page to search all job listings.

Once you are inside the list, just click on any posting that interests you, and you may proceed to apply for that job if you like.

[top]

Q: Why aren't there job postings where I live?

A: Most of the jobs on the Crossroads job board come from employers who have some relationship with a Crossroads member church. As a result, the jobs are usually where the member churches are. If you are in the area where a member church is located, please talk to the ministry team leader about connecting with employers to add their jobs to the job board!

Q: How do I know whether I just need to find a new position versus find a new career?

A: Of course, that's always a complicated question. The simplest answer is that it always makes sense to start at the beginning. If you use the Career Explorer Course to consider your Attitude, Aptitude, and Altitude, you will come out of that exercise with far greater clarity about whether you need to make a big change (a new career); a refinement to a new position in the same career; or be open to learning that you're right where you should be!

Q: Is there a cost to attend a Network Meeting?

A: No. Some churches charge a fee for the workshops, or for additional services that might be provided before or after a network meeting, but there is no charge to attend the meeting.

Q: Is Crossroads for people whose career search leads them toward self-employment or entrepreneurship?

A: There are a number of articles and resources that address self-employment or a business of your own, found in the General Search Resources section of the Career Tools for Career Explorers on our website. One of those resources, www.CareerTIP.net, has a series of tips and links just on starting your own business; just click on starting your own business.
