- Three-Foot Rule.
When you’re in a networking environment like a career event, share what you’re looking for with anyone standing within 3 feet. Start by getting the person’s name and employment goals. - Help-Others-First Rule.
By helping the other person first, you’re making an emotional investment in them. Once you do that, they’ll be more willing to listen to you. ave a servant heart. Look for someone you can help. Everyone knows somebody, hears about job opportunities. If you help enough people, you’ll eventually get what you need. - Have-a-Weekly-Plan Rule.
Saturday is a great day to review the past week, celebrate, and make a list of the career things you need to do for the next week. Have 2 to 5 things that will help you most advance your career search. Assign those tasks to a day. It could be making 5 new contacts every day. Be able to quickly share what you’re looking for and ask if they know someone in that field.
