Click to Listen
Are you one of the fortunate who’s still on the job during the Great Recession? If so, you’ve probably had to pick up some of the workload from co-workers who’ve been laid off. Maybe you’re even feeling what’s becoming known as “survivor guilt.”
Career expert and Crossroads Career Network Founding Director, Brian Ray, speaks with MoneyLife host and Crown Financial CEO Chuck Bentley. On this edition of MoneyLife, Brian discusses how to explore ways you can survive and even thrive if you’re “over employed.” Below you’ll find a summary of the MoneyLife career podcast that aired on July 28, 2010.
Employment Survival Tips:
- Start “good gossip” with your co-workers and especially with customers.
- Look for even little ways to make the best of a bad situation
- Do not over promise on the job. If you can’t complete a task, you’ve got to tell your boss.
- Take time to recharge your batteries, especially if you’re working overtime. Turn off your cellphone and email. The messages will be there later.
- Don’t become part of the “rumor mill.” Be a cheerleader for positive things, and leave the bad things alone.
Employment Thriving Tips:
- Receive new responsibility with joy and be focused on creating value and getting results. Making and saving money for your employer is adding value.
- Be informed about your job and the continuing situation in your workplace.
- Start “good gossip” with your co-workers and especially with customers.
