What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It helps users obtain updates in a standardized format to their favorite blogs, news sites, job postings sites, and video and audio files. Each RSS document, also known as an RSS web feed, includes full or summarized text, along with the date published and author information.

Web feeds benefit authors by automatically syndicating their content, and users gain immediate access to the published content as soon as it’s published – from one centralized site. Users subscribe to these RSS feeds by clicking on an RSS icon in a browser, and then use a software called an RSS read to read the published information. The RSS reader constantly checks the user’s subscribed feeds for new items, downloads any updates and provides a user interface to monitor and read the feeds.
