The Crossroads Career ministry at Grace Church near Minneapolis, Minnesota, hosted its 6th annual Christmas party last week for anyone unemployed or in career transition.
Over 525 People Came
The invitation read: “An evening full of celebration and networking. Share some Christmas spirit and network with business leaders from a variety of locally-owned and nationally-based companies. This will be a great opportunity to expand your network and meet new contacts in a fun, yet professional environment. Complimentary heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served.”
More than 525 people, including employers, came to eat, greet and meet.
“Every year at some point in January, someone says ‘I got a job because of someone I met at this party,’” said Harry Urschel of the networking group.
“It is a blessing in Eden Prairie to serve a community with real needs,” said Peter Nelson, pastor of care at Grace Church. Nelson said that the Crossroads group can help those in the job market to network and gain skills.
Steve Nolte said that he found a job five years ago through the networking group and is back because of how helpful the group was. “I think the faith-based aspect is important,” Nolte said.
Terry Rudin, who works with Schwan’s, is one of the professionals who have been helped by the program and is back now to help others make a connection. “I can’t say enough,” Rudin said. “All it takes is one connection.”
Thanks to the Eden Prairie News for the story and pictures. Kudos to the Grace Church career ministry team that offers classes, network meetings, workshops, one-on-one help and great Christmas parties!
One Great Interview
Meanwhile, 940 miles away in Charlotte, North Carolina, a career explorer shared a Facebook message with friends …
“Had an EXCELLENT interview experience this a.m. and wanted to thank you all for your prayers. They asked if I’d be available next week to talk to board members. Cool thing is I found out after the interview that the executive director has been trying to get one of my references to come for a visit. This reference is so supportive of me that I made him promise to get out there and see one of their sites. And they don’t even know he’s a reference yet (I am going to send references along w/ thank you and he’s at the top of the list).I know I have fallen apart at times and yet God has so blessed me w/ the right people at the right time. No matter how things go I know I’m blessed and so appreciate my bros & sistas!”
Celebrate Jesus and Jobs
Jesus knows where the jobs are, and He said . . .
“Do not worry then, saying,
‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’
For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things;
for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
And all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:31–33
Thanks to all the career ministry teams and members who are helping people find jobs and Jesus. Help us help more people, especially those who have been unemployed for six or more months! ‘Tis the season to party hearty. Start with Jesus, and then the jobs.
